The tasting room at Vino Noceto (pronounced no-che-to) is a renovated garage-turned red barnyard-turned–tasting room that sits atop a beautiful hillside. Burlap sacks have been stapled to the walls—as wallpaper—and there is a sign that reads “Welcome to the Nut House” hung on the wall. The experience at Vino Nocheto is the opposite end of the “snobby” tasting room; in fact, here it can feel like you’re hanging out in a friend’s garage listening to George Clinton and the P-Funk, while talking about the virtues of California–Italian style reds. The family winery specializes in Sangiovese, but they also serve a spicy Zinfandel and its fun cult white wine, the Frivolo (made with Muscat grapes), that has universal appeal. Bring a picnic and enjoy the scenery and don’t forget to take a photo with the big Doggie Diner head.
