If the visions that dance in your head are more peppermint martini than sugar plum fairies, take a stroll down candy cane lane and peek into Lucca Restaurant or Paesanos, where holiday spirit has an entirely different meaning. Paesanos Peppermint and Gingerbread MartinisA miniature sized candy cane hangs on a chilled martini glass, making this holiday inspired cocktail both fun to look at and drink. The peppermint martini—a blend of Godiva white chocolate liqueur, vanilla vodka, Rumpleminze and White Crème de Cacao—is a seasonal favorite at Paesanos in midtown. Paesanos also has a killer Gingerbread martini—vodka, Bailey’s Irish Cream, Kahlua, Goldschlager—that arrives with a gingerbread cookie covered rim. “They are fun and festive,” says Paesanos bartender Erica O’Neil. “And with the vodka and sweetness, it really warms your stomach.” Spiked Pumpkin FrappeJordan Anderson, bar and restaurant manager at Lucca Restaurant, took the coffeehouse blended drink and turned it into a holiday inspired pumpkin frappe strictly for grown-ups. A combination of chai liquor, pumpkin puree, vanilla Stoli, heavy cream and freshly ground cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves; this blended cocktail is topped off with a dollop of whip cream and served in a sleek tumbler. “I started working on this in October to get it ready for the holidays,” said Anderson. “It looks pretty simple, but there is a lot of alcohol in there.” Cranberry MartiniThe deep red tone of cranberry martini makes for a festive hand prop this holiday season and at Lucca restaurant this is a year-round best seller. The martini is made with Ketel One vodka that is infused with fresh cranberries and orange slices to create a cranberry cocktail that barely tastes like alcohol. Drink with caution. Blueberry TeaWhen the weather outside is frightful enjoy a hot drink that warms the belly and the hands. This is an amazing hot cocktail that is being rolled out at Lucca just in time for the holidays and cold weather. The drink is made with a snifter of organic early grey, amaretto liqueur and Grand Marnier; it is then infused with an orange wheel and a cinnamon stick. “This is the drink to have when going up ski slopes,” says Anderson, who grew up in British Colombia.advertisement
