Talk on the Street

>>  This past year, K Street got a second light rail station, 23 new residences at 12th Street and a bold plan for renovation of the 700 block. What do you think is in store for 2007?

“I think the thing that will generate change on K Street will be when people move into the big projects: the Aura and the Towers on Capitol Mall. Those people will need amenities, and that’s when I think people will really start building out K. I think when change happens, it’s going to happen all at once, but I don’t think it will happen this year. I think it’s going to take another two years.”
—Doug Link, director of Esquire/IMAX Theatre

“With the housing that’s starting to come on line, I expect we’ll start to see more people down here on a 24-hour basis, so we’re excited about that. We are certainly doing what we can to grab the attention of those new downtown residents. I think we still have a ways to go—a lot of projects are still at the consulting phase—but it sounds like the Zeiden project (on the 700 block) is starting to fast-track, so I’m crossing my fingers for Christmas shopping next October.”
— Sid Garcia-Heberger, general manager of the Crest Theatre
